A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

RETROGRADE - A terminal-based platformer and roguelike built in a from-scratch engine. Navigate through various rooms fighting enemies, avoiding obstacles and collecting treasure. Featuring a chiptune OST made using only the 2a03 NES chip.

This demo features the first level consisting of 11 rooms and a boss fight.

This is essentially an experiment to see how a terminal-based platformer would work - hope you enjoy!

Install instructions

Install instructions:

  • Linux: Unzip the file, then run chmod +x Retrograde and then ./Retrograde.
  • Windows: Unzip the file, then run Retrograde.exe in the terminal. It is recommended to use the classic Windows cmd.exe and not the new Windows terminal, as the latter doesn't seem to always work. If you're having trouble, use cmd.
